Where did you go to college?
“I got my associates at Grand Rapids Community College and then went to Lewis University in Illinois.”
What did you Major/Minor in in college? Does that have a direct or indirect correlation to where you are now?
“My major was Business Administration, and my minor was Business Management. Yes, there is a direct correlation, however, I had no idea what I wanted to do after graduation. My major and minor were very general, and I could have done anything with them.”
What sparked your interest in Property Management?
“It was very accidental that I ended up in property management. I took a job in Phoenix Arizona managing HOAs and Condo Associations. I had no idea what I was getting myself into!”
Did your career path always involve Property Management? If not, what was it originally and how did you find yourself to come across this path?
“I worked in the restaurant industry for several years before getting into property management. Working in hospitality really helped me in my career in property management. Property management is a customer service industry, and it is important to keep that in mind every day. The owner of the first property management company I worked for hired me because of my background in hospitality and my desire to help people. I didn’t know where I wanted to take my career, but I knew it had to include helping and serving others.”
What kinds of properties do you manage?
“I manage retail, office, industrial, and condos.”
What does your typical workday look like?
“A typical day consists of lots of emails, solving problems for tenants and property owners, working directly with a variety of contractors, and working with our maintenance team. The beauty of property management is that every day is different, and just when you think you have heard or seen it all, something crazy happens!”
